Kaari Onni, a Kalamaja enthusiast with roots on Saaremaa who ran the Roheline Maja café in Viljandi, will lead a session in Kalamaja on preparing one of her favourite dishes. She introduces the cooking evening, taking place on 10 December, as follows: “I can imagine myself as a Baltic herring fisher, fishing over Vabaduse Square 5,000 years ago and snacking on nuts in the forests! A little later, when crop farming was discovered, my love of rye bread began. So together we’ll clean the fish and put it in the oven, make stock from the head and tail, enjoy proper rye bread alongside it, and make barley bread with wild hazelnuts for dessert.” The event takes place in the kitchen of the Kalamaja Museum (Kotzebue 16). Ticket: €15.
