Cooking workshops and lecture “Let’s Eat Healthily and Deliciously” at Grīvas Cultural Space

Daugavpils Latvian Society invites you to the event series “From Seed to Family Table”, taking place at Grīvas Cultural Space on 5 and 14 November. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about food preparation traditions and take part in cooking workshops, competitions and an educational lecture.

On Thursday, 5 November, from 14:00 to 16:30, cooking workshops will be held at Grīvas Cultural Space, Komunālā iela 2. Participants can learn how to pickle and salt cucumbers, ferment cabbage and bake žagariņi. From 17:00 to 19:00, nutrition specialist Lolita Neimane will give the educational lecture “Let’s Eat Healthily and Deliciously”.

The event series will conclude on 14 November at 11:00 with the festive programme “They Baked It Themselves, Ate It Themselves, and Praised Themselves”. The results of the cucumber pickling and salting and cabbage fermentation competitions will be announced. Visitors can take part in a žagariņi-baking workshop and competition, and enjoy musical performances and tastings. The event will also honour the authors of the recipe handbook “My Favourite Recipe” and feature a video film.

The events aim to encourage the preservation and passing on of traditional food preparation skills to future generations, while giving people of different generations an opportunity to meet, share experiences and take part in activities together. Daugavpils Latvian Society invites everyone interested to attend and discover culinary traditions.
