This is a story about a girl who one day climbs into her grandparents’ attic and discovers a world of objects that are alive and (most importantly!) have stories to tell. A moose head, her grandfather’s bicycle, her grandmother’s high heels and even a toilet: they all remember the most important stories—about love, as well as the fashions and customs of those days… These old odds and ends, left behind “upstairs” and no longer needed by anyone, get angry and laugh, crack jokes and share proverbs, inviting us to wonder: is everything we don’t know or understand really, as the play’s heroine puts it, “so boring”? The play is being created by a young, ambitious and humorous team of artists already well known to audiences of the „Lėlė“ Theatre. Director Šarūnas Datenis and designer Antanas Dubra have worked successfully together since their first play, „Gaidelis pinigautojas“, which won the Golden Stage Cross. Composer Vytautas Leistrumas joined them for the play „Čia buvo / čia nėra“, and later, when they staged „Pinokis“, playwright Teklė Kavtaradzė joined the team. “You used to use a phone for ten years, but now for no more than two; people used to drive a car for fifty years, but now you’re lucky if it lasts ten. We’ve got used to throwing something away as soon as we’ve used it, whereas in the past objects had their own stories—important and interesting ones. To keep them from sinking into oblivion, we need to know them, just like our grandmother’s old recipes,” says director Š. Datenis, introducing the idea behind the play. “Our play tells a magical story about objects that begin to speak in an attic: a girl comes to the village with her parents, suddenly realises there is no internet here and, after falling out with her parents because there’s nothing else to do in the village, goes up to tidy the attic. There, all kinds of objects come to life and begin telling her their stories…”
