In the production “What Has Been Written in My Flesh,” there is a person on stage, but they are not the protagonist. They are in the Space. In an ordinary apartment building. The person is at the mercy of the Space, and the Space has its own will and the ability to dictate the course of things. The Space demands servitude from its inhabitants, offering in return the warmth of home, a sense of security, a dry place and a roof over our heads when foul weather drives us into its kennel. In return, we repair the roof, scrub the floors, change the wallpaper, mend the wobbly table leg, do the laundry, beat the rugs, submit the water readings, clean the stairwell, freshen up the toilet, heat the stove and patch the oilcloth table cover. The bathroom drain is blocked again, we probably ought to start cooking, the stove is so dirty, there is no milk for the coffee, we’ll have to stop by the shop afterwards, and get some sausage for the bread in the morning too. Who is honking like that under the window again now…

Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest and Urmas Lüüs’s production looks between worlds. It is both a theatre performance and a spatial installation, a collage of soundscapes and an anthropological observation. Everyday moments and existential eruptions emerge in the production; the focus is on reality, perhaps also hyperreality—all that is born and goes unnoticed in every Space.

Authors and performers: Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest, Urmas Lüüs

Premiere on 5 September 2026 at Ekspeditsiooni stuudio Krulli majas.

Urmas Lüüs has moved through his installation-based explorations of place towards increasingly comprehensive and total spaces. These installations could often be viewed as a frozen second from stage works, which people themselves fill with their imagination. The objects surrounding people function as peculiar catalysts of the spirit. A recurring characteristic of Lauri Lest’s work is spatiality, and in his installations he often uses everyday objects, bringing them to life through sound and light. In his installations, too, the audience experiences the work from every side, spatially.
