In the performance “What Has Been Written in My Flesh”, there is a person on stage, but they are not the protagonist. They are in the Space. In an ordinary apartment building. The person is at the mercy of the Space, and the Space has its own will and the ability to dictate the course of events. The Space demands servitude from its inhabitants, offering in return the warmth of home, a sense of security, a dry place and a roof over their heads when foul weather drives us into our kennel. In return, we repair the roof, scrub the floors, replace the wallpaper, fix the wobbly table leg, do the laundry, beat the rugs, submit the water readings, scrub the stairwell, freshen up the toilet, heat the stove and patch the tablecloth. The bathroom drain is clogged again, we should probably start cooking, the stove is so dirty, there is no milk for the coffee, we’ll have to stop by the shop afterwards, and get some sausage for bread in the morning too. Who is honking like that under the window again now… Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest and Urmas Lüüs’s performance looks between worlds. It is both a theatre performance and a spatial installation, a collage of soundscapes and an anthropological observation. Everyday moments and existential outbursts emerge in the performance; the focus is on reality, perhaps also hyperreality—everything that comes into being in every Space and goes unnoticed. Authors and performers: Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest, Urmas Lüüs. Premiere on 5 September 2026 at Ekspeditsiooni stuudio Krulli majas. Urmas Lüüs has increasingly moved with his installative explorations of place towards ever more comprehensive and total spaces. These installations can often be seen as a frozen second from stage works, which people themselves fill with their imagination. The objects surrounding people function as peculiar catalysts of the spirit. A recurring feature of Lauri Lest’s work is spatiality, and in his installations he often uses household objects, which he brings to life through sound and light. In his installations too, the audience experiences the work from all sides, spatially.
