In the performance “What Has Been Written in My Flesh”, there is a person on stage, but they are not the protagonist. They are in Space. In an ordinary apartment building. The person is at Space’s mercy, and Space has its own will and ability to dictate the course of things. Space demands servitude from its inhabitants, offering in return the warmth of home, a sense of security, a dry place and a roof over their heads when foul weather drives us into our kennel. In return, we repair the roof, scrub the floors, change the wallpaper, fix a wobbly table leg, do the laundry, beat the rugs, submit the water meter readings, clean the stairwell, freshen up the toilet, heat the stove, and patch the tablecloth. The bathroom drain is clogged again, we probably need to start cooking, the stove is so dirty, there is no milk for the coffee, afterwards we have to stop by the shop, and get some sausage for the bread in the morning too. Who is honking like that under the window again..? Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest and Urmas Lüüs’s performance looks between worlds. It is both a theatre performance and a spatial installation, a collage of soundscapes and an anthropological observation. Everyday moments and existential outbursts emerge in the performance; the focus is on reality, perhaps also hyperreality—all that is born in every Space and goes unnoticed. Authors and performers: Marika Vaarik, Lauri Lest, Urmas Lüüs. Premiere on 5 September 2026 at Ekspeditsiooni stuudio Krulli majas. Urmas Lüüs has moved through his installation-based searches for places towards increasingly comprehensive and total spaces. These installations can often be viewed as frozen seconds from stage works, which the person themselves fills with their imagination. The objects surrounding people have an effect like peculiar catalysts of the spirit. A recurring feature of Lauri Lest’s works is spatiality, and in his installations he often uses household objects, bringing them to life through sound and light. In his installations too, the audience experiences the work from all sides, spatially.
