Voicekas is a soldier who returns from war with a fractured mind. He is surrounded by people who need nothing and are needed by no one—each of them obsessed with themselves. In this world, any one of them could be the main character, and each is destined to meet their own shadow—the part of themselves they are afraid to see. Such is the hero’s journey: a calling, a journey, challenges, a descent into the underworld of the dead to meet Hades himself. Only there can you face your shadow—accept it and remain human, or flee from it and disappear, swallowed by darkness. This is the apocalyptic carnival we live in.

This production will boldly combine different genres on stage, from comedy to grotesque and drama. It is an exploration of human nature in all its aspects, both dark and light. It is a story about hope born in the darkest place.

Georg Büchner’s “Woyzeck” is one of the most important and frequently staged German plays. The author’s writing style is rough, sincere and unpolished—like the life around him. He was one of the first authors to offer an unromanticised and unembellished portrait of humanity, recognising how people from different backgrounds are unable to hear one another. Although the play’s unfinished state has led to many different interpretations, director Mykola Mishyn and the creative team aim to convey the playwright’s vision as accurately as possible. After conducting research, the artists worked with all four of the author’s manuscripts to create a new play that preserves the original text’s intention and spirit. The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
