The workshop offers an insight into the working methods and movement material of Hungarian choreographer Júlia Vavra’s dance performance “Attention Network.” The choreographer introduces movement practices developed with the performers during the creative process. You are invited to take part in movement practices that direct your attention to your own body and to what is happening inside you. Through various exercises, Júlia guides your attention between the inner and outer worlds, exploring different states in which we create and receive information, as well as the transitions, overlaps and subtle boundaries between these states. The workshop helps you explore how to process what you experience, let your subconscious do its work, and support this process through movement. You can also experiment with different ways of directing and capturing both your own and other people’s attention. What does your body communicate to the outside world, and how can shaping it in different ways bring information and meaning into a shared space? The choreographer creates an environment where participants can play with overstimulation, evoke their imagination and let themselves be carried by it, practise doing several things at once, give the brain a chance to rest, and explore how to release overstimulation through movement. The workshop is for anyone who wants to reflect more consciously on the following questions: How is your attention directed? How do you set attention in motion, and where do you direct other people’s attention? How does your body carry and create information? How can you find moments to process what you have experienced and relax through dance and movement, while allowing your imagination and subconscious to roam freely?
