Cinderella

Do you remember the story of Cinderella? The ill-tempered stepmother who makes the girl do hard household chores? The King’s invitation to a ball? The pumpkin that turns into a carriage, the splendid gilded clothes, and the clock striking midnight, undoing the fairy godmother’s magic. And the lost magical crystal slipper and meeting the Prince? This is the story of an orphan girl who, despite enduring hardship and being humiliated and oppressed by her stepmother and stepsisters, managed to wait for happiness and recognition and make her dreams come true.

A new interpretation of Cinderella is presented by the longstanding theatre playwright and director Nijolė Indriūnaitė and artist Aušra Paukštienė. Audiences at „Lėlė“ Theatre will recognise the duo from their visually rich and spiritually uplifting shadow theatre performances „Baltos pasakos“ and „Sniego karalienė“, as well as the musically playful puppet show „Gėlių istorijos“, which reflects on fundamental values through the language of puppetry. Together, the artists create on stage a sense of magical time. As the director of the performance says, time is magical when we (people) meet, when we feel happy, and when we help one another experience it.

This classic Cinderella story, based on Nijolė Indriūnaitė’s play „Stebuklingi bateliai“, invites young audiences to immerse themselves in the search for magical time. And when is time magical? The miniature characters living in a fairy-tale box will remind us how fragile time can be, and how precious it is to meet one another.
