Andrius Kaniava: “A Night at the Theatre”

“A Night at the Theatre” is music and songs that I encountered myself. It spans a considerable period of time—almost a quarter of a century—from “Upside Down” to “The Bremen Musicians”. It is music that, as a child, a young man and a student, I listened to while sitting on the Theatre steps, seeing myself in it. These songs never had the chance to step into the spotlight, but they have such dramatic force that they simply demand to be onstage. Not so much demand… They haunt me, creep in through the window, force their way through every crack and insist on being heard,” says singing actor Andrius Kaniava. “And I think that night has come!”

“You might ask: why not an evening? And you would be right! Evening is the time when you instinctively want to wander into a theatre. But when the stage, filled with music, lights and theatrical magic in the evening, is left empty at night, it becomes open to the past. They say that at night in the theatre you can hear the voices of Great Artists who have passed on, the ovations of audiences from times gone by, and music… Unfortunately, performances do not last forever. They remain only in the memories of those who saw them. And music is what gives us the chance to remember performances that changed the lives of many of us.”

The programme will feature songs from the musicals “Love and Death in Verona” and “Fire Hunt with Beaters”, and from the productions “Eternal Desire”, “I Went to the Station”, “Rule No. 1, or Dreaming of Vilnius Is Forbidden”, “The Knight of the Sad Countenance”, and many other beloved productions. And then there are songs by Andrius Kulikauskas, Tom Waits and “4 Non Blondes”, as well as the legendary productions “Upside Down” and “The Last Bremen Musicians”. See you there?
