“REMACHINE” explores the interaction between humans and an inevitable hyper-mechanized environment. At the mercy of their own technologies, the dancers balance on unstable ground moving beneath their feet. The performance unfolds as a chain of cause and effect. Amid a vortex of earthly and otherworldly forces, dance between restraint and freedom, work and ritual emerges as a contradictory condition of the present day. “REMACHINE,” which strikingly combines vocal and physical material and marks a new collaborative project with composer Anna von Hausswolff, invites audiences to meditate on discipline, relentless motion, insatiability, and the mind’s power over the body.
“In life, we often feel that we are both independent beings who make decisions and cogs in a mechanism controlled by greater forces in the world. It is precisely this inner friction, this space of uncertainty, that ‘REMACHINE’ embodies.” — Jefta van Dinther
Jefta van Dinther (Sweden, Germany) is a choreographer and dancer whose work explores the interaction of the moving body with light, sound, and other materials. His performances ask what it means to be human and explore our relationship with community, the environment, and other forms of life. Using illusion, darkness, voice, and image, the artist creates otherworldly stage experiences.
