🎭 KRAHVI THEATRE – “DID WE WANT THIS KIND OF ESTONIA?”

A slice-of-life comedy in two acts

Do you remember a time when you couldn’t simply go to a shop and buy what you wanted? When, to get certain things, it was more important how well you knew someone and what you had to offer them in return than how much money you had? But today, when shops are full of goods and the whole world fits inside a smartphone, has our life necessarily become easier?

Krahvi Theatre’s “Did We Want This Kind of Estonia?” looks through the prism of humour at two different eras and the people living through them. In the first act, we find ourselves in the Estonian SSR in 1988—amid shortages, connections, favours and absurd situations. Even organising an entirely ordinary birthday party can turn into quite an undertaking.

In the second act, we are in present-day Estonia. There are no shortages anymore, there are more opportunities than ever, and almost everything is just a few taps on a phone away. Yet we have new worries, new dependencies and new reasons to complain.

Which era was better? Or was either one? And how much have we really changed over these years?

“Did We Want This Kind of Estonia?” is not a political performance or nostalgia for the Soviet era. It is a slice-of-life comedy that looks through the prism of humour at the past, the present and ourselves—our habits, weaknesses, family relationships, and ability to compare the past with the present. There is plenty to relate to in both acts—and surely we will laugh most of all at ourselves.

Tickets are available in advance through Fienta for €12 / €10. At the venue before the performance, tickets cost €15 for everyone. A theatre café will be open.

See you at the theatre!
