A unique tour programme created by the Estonian Centre of Architecture gives architecture enthusiasts the opportunity to look behind the otherwise closed doors of Tallinn Linnahall. The Estonian Centre of Architecture has been organising tours of Tallinn Linnahall since 2020, and our guides are people who know this building and its story better than anyone else. Linnahall is part of a building complex constructed to host the sailing regatta of the 1980 XXII Moscow Olympic Games, held in Tallinn. The building was designed by Raine Karp together with Riina Altmäe and Ülo Sirp in 1976. It is one of the most outstanding examples of Soviet-era architecture in Tallinn, Estonia. Linnahall also received considerable attention in 2020, when it was one of the most exciting filming locations for Christopher Nolan’s film TENET in Tallinn. In Nolan’s film, the building played the role of the Kyiv Opera House. The building captivated the filmmakers above all with its monumental aura. What is the history of Tallinn Linnahall, what does the inside of the building that served as a filming location for Nolan’s film look like, which stars have performed on the Linnahall stage—and what was the backstage like for those stars—and much more can be heard during this unique tour. The tour lasts 90 minutes in total, and tours take place in Estonian, Russian and English. The tours organised by the Estonian Centre of Architecture are led by Estonia’s best professional guides, who share an interest in architecture and its history. The Architecture Centre also organises custom tours for interested parties in different exciting locations across Estonia, in six languages—for enquiries, please send a request to info@archtours.ee.
