Imagine a warm August evening. The afternoon heat has receded into a pleasant summer embrace accompanied by a gentle breeze. On stage, the band tightens its strings, and the hopeful rumble of a drum can be heard. And now! Seven actors—or were they pigs?—rush onto the stage and make the meadows of Ülenurme resound with wild energy. That is what it could be, because next summer as well, Must Kast’s home will be the Estonian Agricultural Museum, or MUHK. The summer production “RUIK!” introduces pigs from every possible angle through études, music, song and dance in the museum’s circular arena. Yes, pigs—who take turns oppressing and repressing, enjoying themselves and raging, throwing things around and making fun. Krõõt calls the pigs from the rye field with a “clear voice”; the piglets build real estate of varying quality and a communal mill on an animal-run farm; the piggies take the train to Porila, go to parties to sell meat, gobble and gorge themselves and rampage; they squeal and shriek when it is time to start making a piggy din; and the impossible becomes possible when a pig flies. This is a two-act barn cabaret—a merry, musical, dance-filled and furious study of power and its abuse. The party will be pig-tastic and loud, and there will also be soup during the interval. Will there be a moral? No! Will there be rolling around in the mud? Oh yes! Will there be laughter and singing along? Absolutely!
