Summer Production “The Tavern Girls”

The summer production is based on the well-known play “The Factory Girls” by Irish playwright Frank McGuinness. The story takes place in America at the beginning of the last century, where the women working in a tavern—the tavern girls—stand up to the tavern’s new owners because of continually worsening working conditions. As the conflict gathers momentum, human vices and hidden contradictions intensify, but determination, courage, honesty and a strong sense of solidarity are revealed in equal measure. Each character has personal joys, worries, dilemmas and traumas … who does not? And although standing up for their rights ultimately requires taking rather drastic measures, the characters are impressively steeled in the process. As they say, what does not kill you makes you stronger …
