Summer Production “Tavern Girls”

The summer production is based on the well-known play “Factory Girls” by Irish playwright Frank McGuinness. The story takes place in America at the beginning of the last century, where the women working in a tavern—the tavern girls—stand up to the tavern’s new owners because of increasingly worsening working conditions. As the conflict gathers momentum, human weaknesses and hidden contradictions are intensified, but determination, courage, honesty and a strong sense of solidarity emerge just as clearly. Each character has personal joys, worries, dilemmas and traumas … who doesn’t? And although standing up for their rights ultimately requires taking fairly drastic measures, the characters become impressively stronger in the process. After all, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger … Author: Frank McGuinness
