The summer production is based on the well-known play “Factory Girls” by Irish playwright Frank McGuinness. The story takes place in America at the beginning of the last century, where the women working in a tavern—the tavern girls—stand up to the tavern’s new owners because of their steadily deteriorating working conditions. As the conflict gathers momentum, human flaws and hidden contradictions are amplified, but so too are determination, courage, honesty and a strong sense of solidarity. Each character has personal joys, worries, dilemmas and traumas … who doesn’t? And although standing up for their rights ultimately requires the adoption of rather drastic measures, the characters become impressively steeled in the process. As they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger …
