A Thousand-Faced Hero

A performance that focuses on forms of perception other than sight

“A Thousand-Faced Hero” is not an ordinary theatre performance to be watched quietly while seated. Nor is it a dramatization or stage adaptation of Joseph Campbell’s work. It is a sensory journey in which hearing, touch and body memory become important instead of sight. The performers are in the same space as the audience; they can be heard and their presence can be felt, but the performance itself takes place inside and between the people experiencing it. All participants wear eye coverings and headphones so that the journey can be personal and guided.

In this darkness, it is possible to remain completely anonymous while learning an unexpected amount about a complete stranger (and oneself). It is an echo chamber where the good and bad sides of the information age can be physically experienced—where time and space take on a new dimension, where the smartphone becomes useless and notifications become touches. In this “safe discomfort”, it is possible to reach the next level, where nothing is quite as it was before. But when did everything change?

NB! The performance is largely experienced with headphones and eye coverings, and wearing them is a condition of participation. The safety and privacy of the theatre audience are ensured during the performance. The performance is suitable for ages 15 and up. Before attending, please read the audience guidelines.
