Ferrara was one of the most distinctive art centers of the Italian Renaissance. Its development was closely connected with the Este dynasty, which ruled Ferrara and shaped the city into an important cultural and artistic center in the 15th and 16th centuries. Ferrara’s art combines Northern attention to detail, the formal language of the classical Renaissance, imaginative decorative elements, and strong emotional expression. We will explore the palaces of the dukes of Ferrara and the frescoes that decorate them, which belong to the golden heritage of the Italian Renaissance. We will examine the works of Francesco del Cossa, Ercole de’Roberti, Dosso Dossi, Garofalo, and other important artists, now located not only in Ferrara but also in many art collections around the world. Lecturer Aleksandra Murre. The lecture includes a wine tasting.
