A performance that focuses on forms of perception other than sight. “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” is not an ordinary theatrical performance to be watched quietly while sitting. Nor is it a dramatization or stage adaptation of Joseph Campbell’s work. It is a sensory journey in which hearing, touch and body memory become important instead of sight. The actors are in the same space as the audience; they can be heard and their presence can be felt, but the performance itself takes place within and between the participants. All participants wear eye and ear coverings so that the journey can be personal and guided. In this darkness, it is possible to remain completely anonymous while also learning an unexpected amount about a complete stranger—and about oneself. It is an echo chamber where the good and bad sides of the information age can be physically experienced—where time and space acquire a new dimension, where the smartphone becomes useless and notifications turn into touches. In this “safe discomfort,” it is possible to reach the next level, where nothing is quite as it was before. But when did everything change?
NB! The performance is largely experienced with eye and ear coverings, and wearing them is a condition of participation. The safety and privacy of the theatre audience during the performance are ensured. The performance is suitable for ages 15 and up. Before coming, please read the audience guide.
