Theatre Evening with Farmhouse Dinner

Alle-Saija Teatritalu invites you to see the comedy “Isamaa pääsukesed”, accompanied by a rich gourmet farmhouse dinner made from pure local ingredients. The story itself is seemingly simple. The drama group “Virmaline” from a small rural municipality in Estonia decides to stage a musical dedicated to the Estonian War of Independence. Unfortunately, just as many men were unwilling to go to war back then, they are now nearly impossible to entice into taking part in the play. So once again, the women take charge. Against the backdrop of staging the musical, the painful issues of contemporary rural life gradually unfold layer by layer: concern about deteriorating institutions, the depopulation of rural areas, passive family relationships, fondness for alcohol, intolerance of differences, and the search for a sense of belonging and identity.

The dinner menu includes herring and beetroot, a savoury roulade with sõir, rye crispbread with venison pâté, aromatic chicken with zesty accompaniments, smoked ham with fried onions, browned potatoes, white sauce, seasonal salad, fermented vegetables, berry sheet cake, farmhouse bread, flavoured butter, preserves, coffee, herbal tea, flavoured water, and taar.
