I Didn’t Even Notice When You Left – 16 November

“I Didn’t Even Notice When You Left” is a production about the moment when existing bonds break and what lies ahead is as obscure as an extinguished star. On stage are people whose conversations flow with everyday longings and deranged theories, unwashed windows and adulteries, funeral wakes and communists, economic growth and the Titanic. This is a production that more sophisticated fellows introduce with expressions such as “a mad medley”, “sick rampaging” or “a melancholy meditation”. The production draws on Cristi Puiu’s film “Sieranevada”, Bora Ćosić’s novel “My Family’s Contribution to the World Revolution”, and elsewhere as well. Lauri Lagle’s production features Marika Vaarik, Eva Koldits, Rea Lest, Simeoni Sundja, Sander Roosimägi, Alex Paul Pukk, Joonas Koff, Uku Pokk and Joosep Lõhmus. Lauri Lagle’s productions have moved along the boundary between the poetic and the everyday. The actors’ performances have emerged after months of rehearsals focused not so much on the question of “role” as on directing energy, opening up meaning, mutual perception and creating a sense of ensemble. Lagle’s productions do not shy away from lyrical tones, but always keep themselves on the bracing and soothing ground of everyday life. With the largest cast in Ekspeditsioon’s history so far, the ensemble brings numerous grotesque, absurd, ridiculous and abstract scenes to the stage, revealing the kaleidoscopic nature of a hysterical moment. In contrast to Chekhovian lethargy, the characters in this production are full of intense desires, loud demands, endless dissatisfaction and an urge to obtain something at all costs.
