A drama group called "Virmaline" in a small Estonian municipality decides to stage a musical dedicated to the Estonian War of Independence. Unfortunately, just as many men were unwilling to go to war back then, it is now nearly impossible to get them involved in the play. So once again, women take the lead.
Against the backdrop of staging the musical, the painful aspects of contemporary rural life also unfold layer by layer: the everyday concern over deteriorating institutions and the lack of opportunities to repair them, the emptying of rural areas, passive family relationships, fondness for alcohol, intolerance of differences, and the search for a sense of belonging and identity.
