“One of post-punk’s most convincing and inspiring phenomena.” This is how PINK TURNS BLUE from Germany have been described—a band that, since 1985, has been one of the forces shaping European post-punk and darkwave. Over four decades, Pink Turns Blue have continually developed their sound, interweaving post-punk, darkwave, new wave and alternative rock. If their music were to be compared to anything, one might think of Joy Division, The Sound, The Chameleons and Interpol, but despite all that, Pink Turns Blue have a completely distinctive world of their own. The band’s 1987 debut, “If Two Worlds Kiss”, is by now one of the classics of post-punk and darkwave. After four decades, around ten full-length albums and numerous tours of Europe and the USA, however, there is no reason to rest on the laurels of the past. “Black Swan”, released in 2025, proves this well. The album is at once restless and contemplative, comforting and challenging—with Mic Jogwer’s distinctive voice woven around cold synthesizers, ringing guitars and charismatic bass lines. Music that has spoken to listeners for 40 years sounds just as powerful today.
