Lauri Õunapuu and the Estonian National Male Choir, conducted by Mikk Üleoja, invite teachers and school students to the concert hall during the week before the Republic Day. In a programme the length of a school lesson, participants will sing together melodies associated with important dates in our folk calendar and listen to some warm-hearted storytelling alongside them. This way, everyone can sing along and be surrounded by song—when else would there be an opportunity to sit in a concert hall right among the singers? Lauri Õunapuu, who calls himself a hobby folklorist, restores and passes on Estonian archaic singing culture on several fronts. Alongside teaching traditional music and leading the Archaic Male Singing Society, his warm bass voice is familiar from the Vikerraadio programme segment “Päritud laul”. Lauri is also a member of Metsatöll, a mainstay of the Estonian metal scene, and through him bagpipes, zithers and whistles have entered local metal music.
