Joel Remmel Trio has been active for 15 years, and their shared journey was crowned with the title of Jazz Album of the Year at the 2026 Estonian Music Awards.

At this concert, the trio takes listeners beneath the starry sky and performs “Moon Atlas”, a complete work written for them by Tõnu Kõrvits.

I believe that every person has their own connection and feeling towards the Moon—whether simply looking up at the sky or examining the details up there. This work, however, is a musical mapping of walking on the Moon. Tõnu is a great fan of Moon missions and has placed into the music nuances that an ordinary dreamer might not even notice. The work brings together both genuinely mapped locations and dreamlike, imagined journeys.

Jazz musicians usually write and arrange their own music, so it is quite rare for such a highly regarded composer to create an entire work for them.

The clarity of traditional jazz intertwines with the austerity of a Nordic soundscape, creating a distinctive, cohesive sonic picture that does not hurry but instead invites listeners to listen and be present.
