CHOPIN’S PIANO MUSIC
Kirill Lissijenko (piano)
Programme: Chopin
Outstanding pianist Kirill Lissijenko plans to perform Frédéric Chopin’s complete piano works as part of the Musica Sacra series. Chopin’s nocturnes are among the most intimate and poetic works of Romantic piano music. The programme includes nocturnes from Opp. 15, 32, 55 and 62, spanning the composer’s creative journey from his early period to maturity and revealing the development of his expressive style. The bel canto-like elegance of the earlier nocturnes grows in the later works into increasingly free and contemplative musical speech.
Kirill Lissijenko began studying the piano at the age of 11 and completed music school for children in four years. At the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, he studied piano with Ia Remmel and Ralf Taal. In 2010, he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where his teachers were Prof. Lilian Semper, Irina Zahharenkova and Age Juurikas. In 2016, he graduated with a master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy, studying in Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna’s piano class, and completed the master’s programme in chamber music at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the supervision of Matti Reimann. He has also furthered his studies in masterclasses with leading pianists such as Tamas Ungar, Rolf Plagge, Cyprien Katsaris and Daniel Pollack.
He has performed successfully at the Helmi Valtman Foundation Competition and the Con Brio Competition in Tallinn. In 2015, he received second prize at the international Alion Baltic Competition. Kirill performs regularly in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Italy and Russia, both as a soloist and chamber musician. His ensemble partners have included Nadia Kurem, Sigrid Kuulmann, Silvia Ilves, Aare Tammesalu, Kristina Kriit, Toomas Vavilov, Neeme Ots, Andre Cebrian Garea and Maria Veretenina.
He studied harpsichord with Reinut Tepp and Imbi Tarum and has also been a member of a baroque ensemble. He has worked as a piano accompanist in the string department of the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School. As an orchestra soloist, he has performed, among other engagements, with the symphony orchestra of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the direction of Paul Mägi and in Italy with Master Orchestra under the direction of Sergio Baietta. He is also the artistic director of the MozartFest festival in Tallinn.
