“Oglīte” Dance Group Concert: “Dancing for Joy, from Heart to Heart”

On 14 November at 18:00, the middle-generation folk dance group “Oglīte” will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a vibrant and emotional concert, “Dancing for Joy, from Heart to Heart,” at Kultūras pils “Ziemeļblāzma”. The fire of “Oglīte” burns bright and strong, ready to captivate everyone who joins this shared festive dance journey. Thirty years are an entire era, during which countless pairs of dance shoes have worn out and a colourful thread has woven together long hours of rehearsals, the brilliance of stage lights, moments of excitement and joy, and the strength of friendship and togetherness. The concert “Dancing for Joy, from Heart to Heart” will tell a story of enduring love for Latvian stage dance and for the people who devote their zest for life, energy and love to dance day after day. From a small group of kindred spirits and its first dances, performed by eight girls and a few men, a large, close-knit and strong dance family has grown over the years. From the very first day, it has been skilfully led by the group’s founder and choreographer Jānis Marcinkevičs and accompanist Sandra Lūķe. The anniversary concert will offer a broad spectrum of Latvian stage dance. Alongside choreography by masters of Latvian dance and works from the golden repertoire of Latvian stage dance, audiences will see new dances by Jānis Marcinkevičs that have succeeded in Latvia and at international competitions, as well as works by other choreographers. Two groups with a close, unbreakable historic bond with “Oglīte” will join the anniversary celebration: the children’s folk dance ensemble “Dzirkstelīte”, led by Jānis Marcinkevičs, and the folk dance ensemble “Liesma”, led by Gunta Rudene. Other longtime stage friends and kindred spirits will also take part: the middle-generation dance group “Virši” from Inčukalns (leader Andrs Briņķis), the middle-generation dance group “Druva” from Saldus (leader Laine Liepa), the middle-generation dance group “Made” from Madliena (leader Vineta Giņeviča), and the senior dance group “SenVija” from Rīga (leader Antra Vilcāne). Tickets for the concert are available at “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices and at www.bilesuparadize.lv.
