“Go, Tell the Whole World!” — Concert for the 108th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia

On 14 November 2026 at 16:00, the concert hall “Ave Sol” will host “Go, Tell the Whole World!”, a concert marking the 108th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia. At the heart of this concert for Latvia’s birthday will be the music of composer Jānis Lūsēns—ever captivating, relevant and timeless—with the composer himself at the piano. The concert’s title was inspired by the musical “Meierovics”, created by Jānis Lūsēns and poet Māra Zālīte. Its ideas of a person’s loyalty to their homeland and to the cause of Latvian independence, of carrying Latvia’s name out into the world, and of the ability to change history through determination, become the guiding theme of the entire programme. Compositions written in different periods vary in mood and form, yet repeatedly raise questions that matter to each of us: freedom and belonging, every person’s responsibility, and what Latvia means to each of us. Jānis Lūsēns’s music always speaks to its listeners—melodic, multi-layered and incisive. The programme “Go, Tell the Whole World!” brings together much-loved compositions, heard many times, from the musical poem “Freedom Is Like an Apple Orchard”, dedicated to Latvia’s freedom struggles and Latvian riflemen, the concert performance “A Mystery of Dream and Love”, and other well-known works. The evening’s musical landscape will also feature the premiere of two new compositions: “A Branch of the God Tree”, with words by Antons Austriņš, and “When I Have Been Renewed”, with text by Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš. Jānis Lūsēns will be joined in performing his wonderful music by the mixed choir “Laudate” (artistic director Jānis Misiņš), the mixed choir “Saknes” (artistic director Jānis Almanis-Palmbahs), soloists Elizabete Laura Porgante and Jānis Misiņš, flautist Evija Mundeciema, bass guitarist Jānis Rubiks, and percussionist Uģis Upenieks. Musicologist Liene Jakovļeva will shape and narrate the concert’s story. “Go, Tell the Whole World!” will be an event during State Holiday Week, expressing the idea of freedom through music.
