Documentary Short Film “About Sleds, Turns and Life” – A Story about Ikšķile Resident Dainis Bremze

On 13 November at 18:00, the premiere of the film “About Sleds, Turns and Life” will take place at Ikšķile Library. The Ikšķile Cultural Association, together with photo and video artists Jurģis Kreilis and Ieva Kaņepe, continues its series of documentary stories about people important to Ikšķile. This time, the documentary short film “About Sleds, Turns and Life” tells the story of Dainis Bremze, an Ikšķile resident, 1978 World Champion in doubles luge alongside Aigars Kriķis, competitor at the XII and XIII Winter Olympic Games, three-time USSR champion, and President of the Latvian Luge Federation (1998–2001). It is a simple, honest and heartfelt story about the energy of young men, the joy of movement and a passion for different sports that grew into a serious professional career in luge; about parental support; and about the enthusiasm that went into building training tracks in Ikšķile by hand. It is a story about the beginnings of luge in Latvia, its athletes and coaches, the opportunities and challenges they faced, and their enthusiasm, courage and perseverance. The film was made with the support of Ogres Municipality in the project competition “R.A.D.I. – Ogres Municipality 2026”.
