The programme features Ivanov vocalises and the presentation of Trio Elpo’s debut album, “Skaņu Akvārijs”. TRIO ELPO are three musicians and friends — Jānis Rubiks, Edgars Cīrulis and Rūdolfs Dankfelds. Moving freely across genre boundaries in their compositions, Trio Elpo create original music that weaves together the openness of jazz, the depth of contemporary classical music and the energy of rock. Their sound unfolds in expansive, immersive soundscapes, driven by strong rhythmic movement and intuitive interplay between the musicians. At times meditative, at others intensely alive, the trio explores the space where structure meets spontaneity.
The concert programme “Drawing. TRIO ELPO Plays Ivanovs” will feature, for the first time, compositions inspired by the choral vocalises of the distinguished symphonist and this year’s jubilarian Jānis Ivanovs (1906–1983), as well as works from TRIO ELPO’s debut album “Skaņu Akvārijs”. The musicians say: “Just as water can envelop and cleanse the body, music can cleanse the mind and soul. At a time when the world seems increasingly fragmented and a constant stream of information continually demands our attention, these pieces offer space for calm, reflection and the opportunity to return to our deepest selves.”
TRIO ELPO previously performed at Latgales vēstniecība GORS in the 2024 LNSO Vasarnīca concert programme “Simfo.Etno.Džezs”, where, alongside other compositions, one of J. Ivanovs’s vocalises was performed in an arrangement for trio and orchestra. This inspired them and made them want to continue. Visitors to Latgales vēstniecība GORS will also remember the wonderful “Atmosfēras” concert series, created in 2022 by pianist Edgars Cīrulis and his fellow musicians at GORS’s invitation.
