Holy Mass and Concert in Memory of Konstancja Benisławska

The Union of Poles in Latvia invites you to a gathering in remembrance of Konstancja Benisławska (1747–1806), a Polish-born Latgalian noblewoman and poet. She was one of the most prominent cultural figures of the 18th century, whose life was closely connected with our region—Pasiene, Zosuli and Bērzpils. Although her only collection of poetry, “Pieśni sobie śpiewane” (“Songs Sung to Myself”), was written more than two hundred years ago, Benisławska’s poems, deep faith and spirituality have left a vivid mark on Latgale’s heritage and continue to speak to people today, reminding us that light and inner strength do not disappear if we keep passing them on. The event may be filmed and photographed. Video and photographs taken during the event may be used for publicity purposes.
