The Dancing Tale of Mary Poppins

In November 2026, the wind turns and brings with it the ever-wonderful Mary Poppins! The traditional and hugely popular dance fairy tale of the Jyväskylä Dance Institute will once again take over the small stage of the Jyväskylä City Theatre and captivate its audience with the energy of skilled children and young people. The story follows the Banks family, whose life has been marked by haste, discipline, and distance - until one day the mysterious Mary Poppins knocks on the door. Through dance, music, and colorful scenes, we see how joy, play, and gentleness can restore connection with one another. The performance tells of the importance of family, the significance of presence, and the power of childlike wonder. The dance theatre experience invites viewers of all ages to believe in miracles and remember that a touch of magic resides in each of us! Based on P.L. Travers' fairy tale classic, the dance fairy tale features a large group of students from the Jyväskylä Dance Institute's specialized training groups, with choreography created by the Dance Institute's teachers. The story is conveyed through ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and jazz dance. The performance is one hour long and suitable for all ages over 3.
