Jazz Jkl Live: Riitta Paakki Quartet

In pianist Riitta Paakki’s music, the swing flowing from jazz’s roots blends seamlessly with northern hues, seasoned with mature insight and a sunny attitude. The joy of music shines through the Riitta Paakki Quartet’s ensemble playing and reaches listeners’ hearts. The award-winning pianist and composer’s pieces are inspired by nature, art and places. The liveliest compositions swing with confident aplomb in the bebop style of decades past, while the more serene pieces paint Finnish landscapes. The music of the Riitta Paakki Quartet, made up of leading Finnish jazz musicians, sounds effortless, as the outstanding ensemble rises perfectly to the challenges set by the composer. Saxophonist Manuel Dunkel brings a vibrant solo voice alongside Paakki. The group’s effervescent rhythm section consists of Antti Lötjönen and American drummer Joe Peri, who is also well integrated into Finland’s jazz scene.
