Alice in Wonderland — A Play for Children

On an entirely ordinary weekday evening, Alice unexpectedly meets a talking rabbit. She tumbles down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a fantastic fairy-tale world. In Wonderland, anything is possible—including Alice growing, shrinking and multiplying. There, she meets talking flowers, the extraordinary Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. In the end, Alice must save Wonderland from the tyranny of the evil Queen of Hearts.

Sakari Hokkanen has adapted and directed a charming fantasy adventure based on Lewis Carroll’s classic works, full of pace and humour. This delightful and visually striking adventure is recommended for audiences aged over 5.

Jyväskylä City Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland is the first production in Finland to bring three-dimensional digital characters familiar from video games to the stage. Created using motion-capture suits and a video game engine, the characters were developed in collaboration with the game design degree programme at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk). The production’s costume designer, Maarit Kalmakurki, directed the digital characters.
