Keuruu Jazz Club: Emma Salokoski & Jarmo Saari – Kaksin

Singer Emma Salokoski and guitarist Jarmo Saari form a sensitive, intimate and clear-toned duo, bringing together two of the most respected and distinctive artists on Finland’s music scene. Emma Salokoski and Jarmo Saari’s Kaksin concert invites listeners to pause and experience the unique power of music. The programme features carefully selected songs from both artists’ careers in fresh, intimate arrangements, as well as songs from their joint album “Viileässä virrassa”, released in 2023. At the heart of the music is the dialogue between the two musicians, supported by Salokoski’s cleansing, powerful voice and Saari’s evocative virtuosity on guitar.

One of Finland’s leading artists, Emma Salokoski has had a long career spanning several ensembles and numerous albums. She has performed both as a soloist with symphony orchestras and on the main stages of rock festivals. Her best-known groups include Emma Salokoski Ensemble, Emma Salokoski & Ilmiliekki, and the vocal groups Emma Salokoski Voices and Aito Collective.

The duo’s other member, Jarmo Saari, is one of the country’s most distinctive guitarists. Known for his work with groups including Jukka Perko Avara, XL, Jarmo Saari Republic and Anna-Mari Kähärän Orkesteri, he has also composed music for film, television, choreography and theatre. He is known for a compositional style often experienced as highly visual. In addition to guitar, Saari has created soundscapes using, among other things, the human voice, theremin, baroque cello and glass harmonica.
