Konnevesi Jazz Club: Emma Salokoski & Jarmo Saari – Kaksin

The delicate, intimate and clear-sounding duo of singer Emma Salokoski and guitarist Jarmo Saari brings together two of the most respected and distinctive artists in Finland’s music scene. The Emma Salokoski and Jarmo Saari Kaksin concert invites listeners to pause and experience the unique power of music. The programme features carefully selected songs from both artists’ careers, in fresh and intimate arrangements, as well as music from their jointly released 2023 album “Viileässä virrassa”. At the heart of the music is a dialogue between the two musicians, supported by Salokoski’s cleansing, powerful voice and Saari’s painterly virtuosity on guitar.

One of Finland’s leading artists, Emma Salokoski has worked with several line-ups over her long career and released numerous albums. She has performed both as a soloist with symphony orchestras and on the main stages of rock festivals. Her best-known groups include Emma Salokoski Ensemble, Emma Salokoski & Ilmiliekki, and the vocal groups Emma Salokoski Voices and Aito Collective.

The other half of the duo, Jarmo Saari, is one of the country’s most distinctive guitarists. Known for his work with groups including Jukka Perko Avara, XL, Jarmo Saari Republic and Anna-Mari Kähärä’s Orkesteri, he has also composed music for film, television, choreography and theatre. He is known for a compositional style considered highly visual. In addition to guitar, Saari has created soundscapes using, among other things, the human voice, theremin, baroque cello and glass harp.
