Joutsan Cinema: Wicker – Woven from Passion

The original and moving film Wicker – Woven from Passion is a comedy about marriage and the absurdity of society’s norms, starring Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård. A single fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) has had enough of the villagers’ narrow-mindedness and decides to order herself a husband—from a local basket weaver (Peter Dinklage). Made of willow, the husband (Alexander Skarsgård) proves to have more husband material in him than she could have expected. Her unexpected spouse awakens new feelings in her and sets off a wave of infatuation, jealousy and upheaval that threatens to shake the entire village community. This sharp-tongued, humorous comedy, which boldly breaks norms, challenges audiences to consider love and marriage from an entirely new perspective. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2026.
