Joutsa Cinema: La Grazia

Toni Servillo plays Mariano De Santis, the widowed president of Italy, who struggles with moral decisions and finds comfort in the memory of his wife. A judge specialising in criminal law, he would rather not sentence anyone, even as colleagues and political operators at the highest levels of power try to pressure the president to do their bidding. As his term in office approaches its inevitable end, he seeks support from his daughter Dorotea (Anna Ferzetti). The president’s closest friend, Coco Valori (Milvia Marigliano), is a longtime queen of high society who still has the energy to criticise everyone and everything. The opening film of the Venice Film Festival, LA GRAZIA marks the return to the top of Paolo Sorrentino, director of The Great Beauty. Sorrentino raises big questions: What meaning does a life lived have? Toni Servillo was awarded Best Actor in Venice.
