Director Philippe Béziat has conjured up a cinematic dive into the heart of music-making. The film takes audiences inside the orchestra, experiencing the music from different angles and through the perspectives of different musicians, using 90 microphones. The shared desire of 120 musicians to play together sustains the experience. The orchestra’s dazzling home hall, Grande Salle Pierre Boulez, was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel. The film also takes viewers along on the Paris Orchestra’s tour. Classics by Stravinsky and Mahler are performed as if in a state of rapture.

Klaus Mäkelä, who has had an outstanding international career, was only in his thirties when he took up the baton as conductor of the Paris Symphony Orchestra in autumn 2021. The Paris season is now reaching its climax. Mäkelä has propelled the Paris Orchestra to great heights. In 2027, Klaus Mäkelä will take up the post of music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
