EGOMANIACS

The present day. A couple, just shy of thirty. She is a children’s book writer; he is a model. A poisoned silence, where every most innocent word is explosive. Artūrs Dīcis’s play tells the story of Ārons (28) and Kortnija (28), whose toxic relationship is at a turning point: they have already broken up, yet still spend time together. The story unfolds over a single day, during a car journey and a hike in the forest. The play’s tone balances irony, sharp dialogue and deep tragicomedy. It shows how two people who once loved each other become “ego maniacs” toward one another, fighting more for their pride than for genuine reconciliation. It also raises the question of why many young people do not want to start families and have children. Director Reinis Suhanovs: “The production will be a relationship drama, staged as an intimate chamber play and built around the interplay between two actors, bringing brutalism into collision with poetic beauty. Together with the actors, we will try to find a way to speak with the generation living in the 2020s of the 21st century.”
