The Great Manserock Spectacle takes place at Tampere’s Tullikamari at the end of February! Manserock’s influence on Finnish music culture is almost immeasurable. This will be celebrated at Tullikamari’s Pakkahuone and Klubi on Saturday, 27 February 2027. Five bands will take to Tullikamari’s stages, all representing music born and raised in Tampere and still going strong. Rooted in Pispala, Mikko Alatalo will perform in two line-ups at the event. Mikko Alatalo & Brothers Band features the descendants of the grand old man of Manserock, alongside professional musicians familiar from Mikko’s side. The band’s setlist brings audiences gems from Alatalo’s more than 50-year solo career. In the second half of Alatalo’s portion, Coitus Int 50 Revival will take the stage. The set includes historic songs such as “Heinolassa Jyrää,” “Hengitä sisko,” “Odysseus,” “Hän hymyilee kuin lapsi,” “Juankoski Here I Come,” “Elämässä pitää olla runkkua,” “Kuopio tanssii ja soi” and “Per Vers, runoilija.” Joining Mikko Alatalo on stage will be, among others, Coitus Int’s original singer Pena Penninkilampi.
Nolo & Rähjä was founded in Aitolahti, Tampere, in 1970 and is currently working on its next album. The tenacious band has released seven albums to date, bringing together rawness, melody and earthiness with humour and sharp observations of everyday Finnish life. Nolo & Rähjä represents the very first wave of Manserock: its opening acts in the 1970s included Eppu Normaali and Popeda, and Juice Leskinen produced the band’s second album, Oodi.
Alwari Tuohitorvi Revisited presents a renewed 1970s hit machine. Seppo Tammilehto, Alwari’s former drummer and one of its singers, is now the lead vocalist. The other members of Alwari Tuohitorvi Revisited are Masi Luoma, Juha Järvinen, Pekka Haavisto, Otto Veikkola and Henry Kuronen. Alwari’s hits are familiar from Manserock’s golden age: “Sinun laulusi,” “Älä iske Tuijaa,” “Rokkibändi,” “Jytämimmi” and “Kromikaunotar” still sound as if straight from the hairy-head gallery, at the height of Finnish glam rock.
As the cherry on top, the event will feature the comeback performance of the cult band Sidi & Hermottomat. Led by Sidi Mäki-Laurila, who has spent many years working in Tampere’s cultural scene, the band was active in Tampere from 1979 to 1983, making its own Finnish-language pop and rock music. Sidi & Hermottomat released two albums at the time, after which the band went on a long hiatus. It resumed activity in 2009, and its latest album, Näkyviin, was released in 2015. Sidi & Hermottomat last appeared on a live stage about 10 years ago, but that is about to change. The performance will include songs from all the band’s albums as well as completely new, previously unreleased material.
