Aston Kalmari

Aston Kalmari are a Lappeenranta-based rock band known for their fiery live energy and perceptive Finnish-language lyrics. The band offers listeners an empowering sense of connection through subjects people do not usually dare to talk about openly, such as mental health challenges, relationship problems and loneliness. Aston Kalmari’s music combines rousing punk songs with rock epics that tackle heavier themes in just the right proportions. The actively gigging band has released two studio albums and two EPs to date. Some of the band’s best-known songs include Älä rakastu minuun, Ajan virta and Takaisin pintaan.

The thread running through the new album Mun sydän hakkaa mut is powerful emotions: shy infatuation, burning love, blazing passion and overwhelming friendship. Mika Kähkönen summed up the band’s core spirit best on his Rajatapauksia blog: “Aston Kalmari is like the brotherhood in the film Pahat pojat. A little shady, but kind-hearted gentlemen, even though they have tattoos and their gear is pushed hard.”

Aston Kalmari are: Aleksi Arola – vocals and guitar; Samu Pellikka – guitar and backing vocals; Ville Vuorio – bass and backing vocals; Markus Tuhkalainen – drums.

The band celebrates its new album at Tullikamari’s Klubi on Wednesday 11 November!
