The exhibition Linen for Life opens on 21 November. It tells the story of linen, its many uses and its importance as a sustainable natural material, from ancient times to the present day. Discover objects, textiles and stories about a plant that has been used for generations and still has much to offer.
The touring exhibition was created by Sweden’s handicrafts consultants and handicrafts developers with specialist expertise in textiles. At Gotlands Museum, the exhibition is supplemented by a larger local addition, supported by Region Gotland’s regional handicrafts and design developers, Gotlands Hemslöjdsförbund, Havdhems hembygdsförening, and numerous dedicated private individuals, business owners and producers. Jenny Söderström is the exhibition producer for the local addition.
After the opening, damask weaver Hans Thomsson will give a lecture in Sävesalen at 14:30. His interest in weaving began while growing up on Gotland. Places are limited. Advance registration for the lecture is required via a form on the Gotlands Museum website. (link)
