“This theatrical fairy tale, which I found in the Neapolitan collection Il cunto degli cunti and rewrote in the form of an ancient tragedy, incorporating my merry, talented masks—which I wanted to preserve for the benefit of people suffering from melancholy—worked a great miracle. The audience wept and laughed at my bidding; crowds came to see performances of this fairy tale as though it were not fiction, but the truest reality.” (Carlo Gozzi) “I have nothing to add.” (Aidas Giniotis)
