On Sunday, 22 November, cinemas across Europe celebrate European Arthouse Cinema Day. For the occasion, Tartu Elektriteater’s Town Hall cinema will screen a fine selection of films by European directors from morning until evening. Several dozen young dancers take part in a job interview—everyone wants to be part of a new dance production that could help launch a career. After the first rehearsals, a relaxing party takes place. As the evening goes on, it emerges that someone has spiked the sangria, which has become the party’s hit, with substances that definitely do not belong in it… The career of French director Gaspar Noé, who shocked cinema audiences with “I Stand Alone” and “Irreversible,” has been consistently marked by a nihilistic, cynical approach to life and what it means to be human. His fifth feature film is considered more audience-friendly than his previous work: it has a generous dose of dance, youth and horror, but above all reveals the nature of people consumed by their desires.
