A year ago, at the State Small Theatre of Vilnius, director Oskaras Koršunovas presented the first act of the play “Kant.” The sketch quickly attracted interest and audience sympathy. In this play, the playwright continues the theme of historical figures at the Small Theatre of Vilnius. “Kant. A Room Where No One Thinks,” together with the enduringly popular productions “Madagascar” and “Mistras,” forms a kind of trilogy.
The play is set in the world of the Prussian philosopher Immanuel Kant, who astonished people not only with his thinking but also with his way of life. In his best-known work, “Critique of Pure Reason,” the philosopher set himself an almost impossible mission: to investigate the limits of reason and establish a firm foundation for metaphysics, which at the time was considered essential and unavoidable. By using reason to investigate the capacities of reason, the philosopher created one of the most remarkable works in the history of human thought. Unlike Kant’s complex and intricate thinking, the production presents the Kantian world in an engaging and witty way, and even continues the philosopher’s own project by “investigating” dramatic form itself through theatrical means.
