Farewell to the Production: The Three Little Pigs

“Once upon a time there were three little pigs—Nifas, Nufas and Nafas. Each built himself a house, one of straw, one of sticks and one of bricks. When the wicked Wolf attacked them, he destroyed the pigs’ weaker houses, and all the brothers hid in Nafas’s brick house. After that, they all joined forces and defeated the Wolf.” Everyone has known this fairy tale for a long time—children and adults alike. And it might seem there is nothing new to come up with. But it turns out that puppeteers, especially at the „Lėlė“ Theatre, are very inventive. They have staged this tale four times—in 1963, 1977, 1980 and 1999—and each production was different. In its latest version of “The Three Little Pigs,” the „Lėlė“ Theatre offers a lively, musical, improvised and entertaining show for children and their parents alike.

A small troupe of travelling performers comes on stage: three comedians and a Ballerina. They are preparing to perform the tale of the three little pigs for the audience. But their plans are greatly disrupted by the Caretaker, whose artistic ambitions are out of all proportion. As he tries to hinder the performers, he actually helps them, and in this way finds his place in life. In this production, the musical Irmantas Jankaitis shines in the role of the Caretaker-Wolf. The role gives him ample opportunity to show the many facets of his artistic talent.
