Beautiful and Powerful: Lithuanian Women, Acoustically

The performance-concert BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL: LITHUANIAN WOMEN, acoustically, is coming to Viečiūnai! With renewed energy, the actresses of the group „Graži ir ta galinga“ present the acoustic programme of their performance-concert „Lietuvos moterys“ (Lithuanian Women). What do a Renaissance beauty, a writer with a headscarf and an interwar seductress have in common? The three of them, joined by a host of friends—many of whom for years were simply called someone’s wives and mothers, or witches—are taking to the stage to tell everyone what it means to be women in Lithuania. Alongside Ieva, Asta, Marija, Vaiva and Rugilė, the stage will also welcome the irrepressible Žemaitė, Barbora, who cried her eyes out for love, the interwar bandit Teklė, a coven of witches, a crowd of women whose surnames end in -ienė, our grandmothers and yours, and many other women—beautiful and powerful, both remembered and forgotten—who fought for their place in Lithuanian history. Together, they will tell us what young Lithuanian women today are like and what tradition gave rise to them. True stories based on real events and fictional tales in the performance-concert „Lietuvos moterys“ will take audiences not only through different historical periods, but also through different stages of a woman’s life, each accompanied by a different musical style. Sincere emotion will give way to funny stories, followed by sharp irony. Things that cannot be said will be said, and things that are not necessarily funny will be laughed at. We promise that the exuberance and energy will warm your hearts, the humour and colourful bouquet of music will clear your minds, and the energy radiating from the stage will inspire you and help you feel your own power. Bodies will sway, love will bloom.

Music and lyrics by actresses Vaiva Kvedaravičiūtė, Rugilė Latvėnaitė, Ieva Pakštytė, Asta Zacharovaitė and Marija Žemaitytė.
