It offers a new directorial approach, a fresh interpretation and a completely different take on the legendary comedy. Audiences can also continue to see the much-loved version of “Defending the Caveman,” created by Paulius Valaskevičius and directed by Dainius Kazlauskas. The comedy “Defending the Caveman” premiered on Broadway in 1996 and became the longest-running one-person show in Broadway history. It later spread around the world and was staged in more than 30 countries. “Defending the Caveman” explores a timeless subject: relationships between men and women. Why can’t men do several things at once? Why do women get angry when the bathroom mirror gets splashed again? Why, after all these years, do we still argue about the same things? “Men and women often see the world through different languages and express their feelings differently. But it is not our differences that separate us; it is our inability to understand them. When we learn to accept one another not as enemies, but as fellow travellers who are different, our differences become a strength rather than a problem.” — Tomas Rinkūnas. Witty everyday situations, astute observations and humour help both men and women recognise themselves. The world changes, but relationship questions remain the same—from the caveman era to today. “Defending the Caveman” was first performed in Lithuania in 2005 and, over two decades, has become a true theatre legend, staged more than 1,000 times in different Lithuanian cities. Over the years, the leading role has been played by Dainius Kazlauskas, Kostas Smoriginas, Darius Meškauskas, Vaidotas Martinaitis and Giedrius Savickas.
